Dear Friends (and Friends of Friends),
Please join us for Nokomis Lights, Camera, Action on Thursday, February 21st.
Friends of the arts program at Nokomis Regional High will host a day of workshops focused on stage and song and an evening performance. Our hope is to welcome 200 students in grades K-12 to this learning adventure. Although there will be a fee for students to participate, ample opportunity for financial assistance ensures that any interested students may attend.
We welcome talented friends and talented friends of friends to volunteer for this amazing adventure. Please spread the word and ask your friends to consider supporting this opportunity and raise funds for Ms. Lisa’s Neal’s successful and growing Nokomis Regional High Drama Club. The Nokomis fall musical, The Wizard of Oz involved 60 students and needs our help.
Our 2017 and 2018 events were a tremendous success and we are beginning to plan a repeat 2019 engagment. We model our program after the highly regarded and rewarding programs Learning Unlimited MIT Splash and Young Americans. in 2017, 40 instructors participated and most have verbally agreed to return. 150 youth from all over Maine attended and reported back with unbounded enthusiasm.
Please join us as your passion and skills can foster development for student participants and performers. Instructors for the day can be teachers, professionals, parents, students or enthusiasts with a passion to share.
You do not need any stage experience to qualify to teach! Perhaps you could teach a workshop for our students: “Theatrical Make-Up: Clowning to Classy”, “Theater and Spies in WWII”, “How to Write a One Act”, or “Tap Dancing for Community Theater.”
Perhaps you could direct and choreograph a performance piece for the evening program, or maybe you could facilitate or participate in a small program for parents, such as “College Choices for Area Artists.”
A current Nokomis senior student, a participant in the Maine Bridge Program, recently designed a poster to promote Dexter High School’s fall dramatic performance, and we’re hoping he will lead a class on making successful advertising posters.
Topics will reflect our supporters’ passions and skillsets.
Although the focus of the day is dramatic arts, we can offer other engaging learning experiences to attract a wide audience: kite flying, meditation, and juggling are all possibilities.
Please confirm your assistance as soon as possible. Complete a Teacher Volunteer Registration. Help us keep the arts alive in our public education system!
If you can’t offer a workshop, you can still help! Please consider sharing news about this event, both the workshops and the performance, with everyone you know. Currently, informational flyers will be distributed to area schools and will be available at www.nokomislightscameraction.com. And registration for this event would make a great gift! Student Registration is open now. Registered participants will select courses February 5st-February 15th.
And, of course, please save the date! Join us in making Thursday, February 21, 2019, a great day for Nokomis and the arts in Maine.
